Panasonic on Tuesday (May 31) said it would close the loss of TV panel production business, so that Sharp will become Japan's only TV panel makers.
A spokesman for the Panasonic said the Himeji plant in western Japan would stop production of the TV panel by the end of September.
Himeji plant began production in 2010, in the past few years, under the intense price pressure of South Korea and China's industry , Himeji plant has never been profitable.
Panasonic said Himeji will continue to produce panels for automotive dashboards and medical devices, but with 32-inch panels, production will fall to a quarter of the current 81 million units per month.
Panasonic's part of the TV product has been used by opponents of the supply panel, such as South Korea's LG monitor.
Panasonic shares closed up 3.6%, the Nikkei 225 index closed up 1.0%.
